Understanding The Role Of Ancestors In Ìgbò Cosmology. In Odinana Ìgbò, Ndị Ịchie refers to the ancestors, who are believed to continue to exist in the spiritual realm after death. The Ìgbò people believe that the ancestors play an important role in their lives and in the community as a whole. According to Ìgbò cosmology, the ancestors are considered to be intermediaries between the living and the Supreme Being, Chukwu. The ancestors are believed to have a closer relationship with Chukwu than the living, and as such, they are able to intercede on behalf of the living. The ancestors are also believed to have the power to bless or curse their descendants, depending on their behavior and actions. Therefore, the Ìgbò people believe it is important to honor and respect their ancestors by performing rituals and sacrifices in their honor. Different  people from different places had settled in the area in pursuit of safety. Mgbidi has a citadel structure and whoever ran into it was secure from external harms.  It was stated in the concept of Mgbidi that it was once called Uwe, some even pronounced it Enwe or Nwe as I was told. (I will still state the deprivation the multi-pronunciation of the name 'NWE, UWE, ENWE' cost the people of Mgbidi). Till date our aged People still refers Mgbidi as UWE.
